We Love Girls Inc

February 22, 2017

In honor of our 6th year partnering with Girls INC of the PNW and their Power of the Purse Charity, we thought we would shed some light on why we love Girls INC and have chosen to work with them as our local charity.

Girls INC has a long history of empowering girls and women “to be strong, smart and bold”. As a nationwide service Girls INC creates an environment where girls all over the country are empowered to dream, build and realize more for themselves. In our current climate, we value ever more the work Girls INC has done to help these girls create bright futures for themselves. Young women from all backgrounds are empowered and educated to value and respect themselves. These empowered girls are the thinkers, builders, dreamers, makers and owners of the future. We are proud to contribute to their success in any way we can.

Our Involvement
Since 2011 we have partnered with our local Girls INC chapter through Power of the Purse and have loved every minute of it. hand-and-hide-partners-with-girls-incEach year we are matched with a different Council Girl from the Girls INC program as well as a local “Purse-O-Nality”, usually a business owner or local maker and shaker. This year we have been matched with the wonderful Kelsey Troy, Sr. VP at KinderCare Education. Each year we collaborate with our local personality to design a luxurious leather purse to be auctioned off in support of Girls INC Pacific NW. This marks the first year that we also involved our Girls INC Council Girl, Kennedy, to tap into her vision for the purse. Let me just say, with the power of our three minds combined, this is our favorite Power of the Purse bag yet!

Join Us
In just a few weeks our 2017 purse will be modeled by Kennedy and auctioned off at the Portland Hilton along with tons of purses from other local designers and makers. Get your tickets and join us for a glamorous, exciting evening in support of a wonderful cause. See you there!

Leather in Any Weather: A Care Guide Part I

March 01, 2017

Our hometown of Portland Oregon is incredibly rainy, as I write it is literally dumping outside! You might ask why a leather goods store would set up shop in such a wet environment knowing that water is no friend to leather. Although rain can make leather care potentially difficult we find this unique city with its rich natural colors, diverse interests and a strong local love for quality, handmade goods a perfect place to draw inspiration from every day. Keeping your leather gear in top shape is...

Hand and Hide Custom Leather Bag Power of the Purse 2012
Power of the Purse

February 28, 2012

Last November I was contacted by a lady organizing a charity auction for Girls Inc., a nationwide organization that empowers young women. The auction is an annual event called Power of the Purse and it teams local celebrities with local craftspeople to design and create purses that are sold to the highest bidder, the proceeds all going to Girls Inc of NW Oregon. I was asked to participate as a craftsperson and I readily agreed, frankly stunned and flattered by the invitation. I...
